Everything you need to know before we get started.
Animal naturopathy is a complementary health approach that uses natural, evidence-informed methods including nutrition, herbal medicine, and lifestyle support to assist your pet's body in healing and maintaining balance. It looks at the whole animal, not just the presenting symptom. Diet, environment, stress, and individual biochemistry are all considered. It works alongside conventional veterinary care, not in place of it.
Nutrition influences almost every system in your pet's body. Common areas where dietary changes can make a meaningful difference include chronic skin and ear problems, digestive upset and food sensitivities, poor immunity and frequent illness, difficulty maintaining a healthy weight, joint stiffness and mobility, low energy and slow recovery, dental health, and the early signs of aging. Gut health in particular underpins many seemingly unrelated conditions. When the gut is compromised, it affects immune function, inflammation levels, and the body's ability to absorb nutrients properly. Improving diet does not replace veterinary treatment, but it can significantly support the body's own capacity to heal and function at its best.
Yes. Naturopathic care is specifically designed to complement conventional veterinary treatment. We strongly encourage all clients to maintain their existing veterinary relationships and continue any prescribed medications unless their vet advises otherwise. Our role is to add a powerful additional layer of support to the care your vet already provides. We will never recommend stopping prescribed treatments.
We work exclusively with cats and dogs. This focus allows us to offer deeper, more specialised knowledge for these two species rather than spreading across a wide range of animals. If you have another type of animal and are looking for naturopathic support, we recommend seeking a practitioner who specialises in that species.
All consultations are conducted via video call (Zoom or Google Meet) or phone. No in-person appointments are available. Before your session, we will send a detailed intake questionnaire to complete. This helps us make the most of your time together and means we can get straight into what matters for your pet. Online consultations are just as thorough and effective as in-person visits, and are available to clients anywhere in Australia.
Every animal is different. Some respond quickly, others need more time. Acute issues often shift faster, while long-standing or chronic conditions need patience and consistency. Many clients notice early signs of change within a few weeks, but the deeper benefits of nutritional support build over months. The most important thing is sticking with the plan and keeping in touch as things progress.
We will send you an intake questionnaire to complete before your appointment. If you have any recent vet records, blood test results, or previous reports, please have these on hand or send them through in advance. They are incredibly helpful for building a complete picture of your pet's health. The more detail you can share, the more tailored and effective your consultation will be. You know your pet better than anyone, and that knowledge matters.
Jessica Rice has 20+ years of experience working as a veterinary nurse, giving her an exceptionally strong foundation in conventional animal health and clinical care. She is currently completing her Advanced Animal Naturopathy qualification through CIVT (College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies), one of Australia's leading institutions for integrative animal health training. This combination of clinical experience and naturopathic education is central to the The Pet Naturopath approach.
